Two Percent Inflation Rate Recorded in January 2026

Year-on-year inflation slid down to 2 percent in January 2026 from 2.9 percent in January 2025. The current print is however the fastest inflation rate in 11 months or since February 2025. 

Observed increases in electricity and housing rentals during the first quarter of the month largely drove inflation rate up in January 2026. Given this, National Statistician Dennis Mapa notes that the inflation outlook for the coming months is relatively elevated.
