Sulu Bans All Moro Islamic Liberation Front Activity Within the Province

The province of Sulu has banned the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) from organizing any activities in the province’s jurisdiction after the group reportedly tried to conduct a general assembly without local government clearance. The MILF and the Moro National Liberation Front, the region’s leading Islamist groups, denounced the resolution and its possible implications for the MILF-led peace process. 
The new policy is unlikely to significantly impact the Bangsamoro region’s security situation, but PSA analysts do not discount the possibility of threat actors exploiting recent political developments. Large-scale violence remains unlikely so long as major players remain committed to the peace process and resort to legal means of conflict resolution, which remains the status quo.
