As is typical, the crime patterns observed in the month of August 2019 primarily involved low level crimes, particularly crimes against property (theft and qualified theft). Eight incidents of armed robbery were recorded this month. Of those figure, six incidents involved Chinese nationals while one each involved Nigerian and Indian nationals. Recorded incidents of murder and attempted murder involved one American-Chinese victim in Ifugao, one Korean national in Pasay City, one Japanese in Cebu and one Egyptian victim in Davao del Sur.
Most crime incidents against foreigners recorded in August 2019 occurred between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm and mostly involved Chinese victims. Out of the 15 kidnapping-related incidents recorded this month, nine occurred in Metro Manila. Four of these incidents were gambling-related abductions involving Chinese victims, one debt-related abduction of a Chinese national, two attempted abductions against Chinese victims, one incident involving a 30-year old Filipino victim, and one incident involving a suspected mentally unstable suspect targeting an infant.
