PSA recorded 17 crimes against businesspersons and establishments in August 2025. Six of the incidents involved robberies that took place in Caloocan City, Marikina City, Cavite, Rizal, Cebu, and Bukidnon. Meanwhile, two attacks against businesspersons that resulted in their demise were recorded in Batangas, and Negros Occidental.
One incident in Caloocan City during the period involved suspects whom local authorities believe are members of a robbery/hold-up group that target individuals tasked with handling and transporting significant amounts of cash. Authorities are also considering the possibility of an inside job, where current or former employees of the victims’ workplace have potentially provided information to the perpetrators.
The National Capital Region (NCR) accounted for the highest number of recorded incidents for the period considered. These incidents took place in the cities of Caloocan, Makati, Manila, Marikina, and in Quezon City. Other incidents this month were recorded in North and South Luzon (Ilocos Region and Calabarzon), Central Visayas, and Northern Mindanao.
Meanwhile, 25 smuggling and counterfeit-related incidents were reported nationwide in August 2025. The reported illegal shipments and fake products that have entered the country and were intercepted this month amounted to PHP 1.5 billion (USD 25.3 million).
This month’s featured crime stories highlight two significant incidents: an employee stealing company funds in Makati City and a robbery incident targeting a company messenger transporting PHP 152,000 (USD 2,662) in cash in Caloocan City.
