PSA Consultancy recorded three (3) kidnapping-related incidents involving six (6) victims in March 2024. All three incidents were personal dispute-related. None of the recorded incidents in March 2024 involved ransom payments.
There were no foreign victims involved in the recorded incidents for March 2024. Based on PSA’s data, the kidnapping incidents occurred in Pangasinan, Pampanga, and Cebu. None of the incidents recorded in March 2024 resulted in the demise of the victims.
One incident involved a businessman who was missing and presumed abducted in Cebu. The victim was reportedly involved in a car buy-and-sell business. Analysts believe the victim was involved in a business deal gone awry, although unverified reports claim the victim was detained in the province.
Another incident involved the abduction of two environmental activists in Pangasinan. PSA notes that political abductions against left-leaning civil society members in the Philippines tend to involve rogue authorities outside of formal security operations. Some incidents may also be perpetrated by suspects utilizing fake or stolen police or military uniforms.
PSA recorded one successful rescue operation this month. The operation was in response to a personal dispute-related incident. The victim was held by their captor for four prior to their rescue.
