Philippine Officials Announce Plan to Deploy Boats in Escoda Shoal

Philippine authorities recently announced its plan to deploy a combination of its naval and coast guard assets to reassert its claim on Escoda (Sabina) Shoal in the West Philippine Sea. In what appears to be an attempt at avoiding further incidents with the Chinese navy and coast guard, Philippine defense officials have only released limited details of the government’s plans and operations concerning Escoda Shoal – contrary to the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea’s (NTF-WPS) “transparency initiative” particularly concerning Ayungin Shoal earlier this year.
