Malacañang Calls for Patience as Business Groups and Civil Society Demand Urgent Responses to Infrastructure Corruption Scandal

The Philippines’ biggest business and labor groups recently expressed growing discontent over the Marcos administration’s infrastructure corruption probe, citing slow proceedings and the perceived lack of genuine reforms since President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. first brought the issue to light last July. As student walkouts and near-daily protests on the issue persist, Malacañang called for “patience” and assured the public that there are continuous efforts to hold involved personalities accountable. Meanwhile, the acquittal of key figures implicated in the 2013 pork barrel scam are raising concerns that the same may occur in the current corruption probe.
