Airport security apprehended a knife-wielding passenger who refused manual inspection and fled security at the Iloilo International Airport last Wednesday, January 28.

The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) at the Iloilo International Airport’s pre-departure area detected a knife inside a 54-year-old passenger’s luggage and initiated manual inspection of the bag. Refusing inspection, the suspect fled the area with his bag and subsequently took the knife out of the bag. Some reports claim that the suspect attempted to stab one of the responding security personnel, prompting a member of the Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group (PNP-ASG) to fire at the suspect. The OTS reported that the suspect was hit in the chest, though other news outlets stated that he was hit in the shoulder.
