Is Another Extension Possible? Senate Files Measure as Bangsamoro Parliament Seeks to Postpone 2025 Parliamentary Polls

The Senate recently filed a resolution aiming to defer the first regular elections in the Bangsamoro region from 2025 to 2026 almost two weeks after the Bangsamoro Parliament issued a resolution seeking to postpone the polls in the region. The course of this initiative will largely depend on Malacañang if President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. will certify the measure as urgent and if Congress can swiftly pass a bill postponing the elections. But as far as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is concerned, preparations for next year’s polls remain underway as of this time.
