The World Economic Forum recently published its Global Risks Report 2026, highlighting geopolitical shocks, economic risks, climate instability, societal strife, and rapid technological change as the main challenges requiring international collaboration and shared responsibility. Recent global developments however indicate that governments are exercising heightened protectionism at a time of declining trust and diminishing transparency, with 2026 regarded as an age of competition.
