‘For the Greater Good’: Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez Resigns as House Speaker, Replaced by ‘Ally’ Isabela Representative Bojie Dy

Leyte 1st District Martin Romualdez recently resigned from his post as House Speaker in what administration allies regard as a move to regain the public’s trust in the lower chamber, as the new independent commission investigates anomalous flood control and other infrastructure projects. Representative Romualdez was replaced by his nominee, Isabela 6th District Representative Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, a close ally belonging to the ruling Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (Federal Party of the Philippines). This makes Representative Romualdez the second speaker in Philippine history to resign, after Sergio Osmeña stepped down from the then-Philippine Assembly amid criticisms from fellow Nacionalista Party members in 1921.
