Heightened security measures shall be in effect across the Philippines as the election period for the 2025 midterm polls begins this January 12. Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoints manned by members of the police and military are already stationed in several cities and municipalities nationwide, and a temporary national ban on firearms and deadly weapons is now in full effect. While the elections itself will be held on May 12, the election period is set to last until June 11. These heightened security measures will be implemented until then.
